Keurig-V

Problem Space - Coffee Maker Re-Design

This project was an exercise in 3D cardboard prototyping. Starting with an existing coffee maker, our assignment was to make three distinct changes to the aesthetics and/or function of our device.

3D Exploration

To gain a better understanding of the existing design, I created a 1:1 scale cardboard prototype of the Keurig.

Sketching

My re-design focused on making the standard counter-top Keurig more sleek and modern. I added concavity to the sides for a modern appearance - imitating the curves of a Corvette, which is where the Keurig-V gets its name. They also serve to save space on an often times cluttered counter-top.

To account for the concave sides, the water tank extends around the back so no volume is lost. I also added a continuous curve to the rear of the Keurig to maintain its modern profile. The mug stand is also tapered to match the curve of the profile.
